Nonmedical exemptions to school vaccine requirements on rise in McLennan County

More McLennan County parents chose not to immunize their children for nonmedical reasons this school year despite a record-breaking measles outbreak in the country, according to a Texas Department of State Health Services report. For the 2011-12 school year, 0.27% of students in McLennan County filed conscientious, or nonmedical, exemptions to at least one immunization, according to the Department of State Health Services. That percentage rose to 0.56% for the 2018-19 school year.
