As hikers head to Santa Susana Field Lab, residents rally for a cleanup

An Earth Day nature walk sponsored by Boeing Corp. near the old Santa Susana Field Laboratory is drawing the scorn of local residents, who say the walk is part of an effort to gloss over the lack of a clean-up in the area after years of Cold War contamination from the rocket engine testing site. The walk includes a tour of the former field laboratory and the landscape around it in a region that includes massive sandstone rock formations, expansive views and oak trees nestled in the hills above the west edge of the San Fernando Valley.
