Federal officials have studied aircraft noise in Southern California for years and will now also assess health issues associated with the use of leaded aviation gasoline. A sweeping FAA reauthorization bill approved Oct. 5 includes a pilot program to find methods to reduce aviation noise and a study of the health effects of aircraft noise on communities near a half dozen major airports including LAX.
