The losses — in the workplace and our schools, among friends and families, to our social fabric — are staggering. From 1999 to 2016, more than 630,000 people died from drug overdoses, while as many as 1 million senior citizens have alcohol or other substance abuse problems. Anxiety disorders impact nearly one-fifth of the American population, and about four-fifths of adults with depression report some difficulty coping with work, home and social activities because of it. Not only do nearly 45,000 Americans die by suicide each year, it is the third-leading cause of death for young people ages 10 to 24, and the second-leading cause of death among college students.-...
