Rajya Sabha passes Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019; 125 votes in favour, 99 against it

The Bill will now need President Ram Nath Kovindīs nod to become a law. The CAB will give Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Zorastrian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
