Super Mario Cereal Could Be A Real Thing
(GameSpot PSP News)

Kellogg`s is apparently making Mario cereal. The cereal-focused website Cerealousy reported this week that it found references to a Super Mario Odyssey-themed cereal with star-shaped oats and marshmallow pieces in the shapes of coin boxes and 1-up mushrooms, among other things. Not only that, but the cereal box will apparently come with an Amiibo that unlocks something in Odyssey. We are excited about all of this.A Cerealousy reader told the site that they received confirmation from Kellogg`s that this Mario cereal is real and is coming to stores right now in the United States.I hope this Nintendo cereal (with amiibo functionality) is real and they bring back the commercial https://t.co/bmiapgouTO pic.twitter.com/KdwRf1rmrx — Wario64 (@Wario64) November 28, 2017Twitter user Wario64 found a reference to the new Mario cereal in retailer Target`s database, while IGN discovered a page on Walmart`s website for it. So now it just seems like a matter of time before Nintendo confirms this.As Cerealousy reminds us, Nintendo released a cereal called Nintendo Cereal System back in the `80s, containing cereal based on Mario and Zelda. It also came with collectible cards, so now it appears history is repeating itself but updated for modern times. In September this year, Nintendo announced a partnership with Post to put Mario branding on cereals like Honey Bunches of Oats, Honeycomb, Golden Crisp, and more.Last year, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that as result of changes in the gaming landscape, fewer and fewer young people are discovering Nintendo games through...games. Instead, they`re finding out about Nintendo and its characters through things like officially licensed Mario toothbrushes. The executive said you can expect these kinds of licensing deals to continue and possibly increase, so it seems like the new Mario cereal might be part of that effort, and we`re OK with that.Breakfast is, after all, the most important meal of the day.
