New lane configurations downtown designed to provide safer conditions for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers

New lane configuations opened this week in downtown Colorado Springs, helping to improve downtown connectivity, pedestrian safety and bicycle infastructure. South Weber Street between East Rio Grande Street to Pikes Peak Avenue now has one lane in each direction with turning lanes at intersections for cars, on-street parallel parking spaces next to the through-traffic lane and a designated bike lane between the parkign spaces and the curb. The reconfiguration is designed to help keep pedestrians, cyclists and drivers safer by keeping bicycles off the sidewalk and provide a buffer from moving traffic for cyclists.
