An ambitious report by The Times-Picayune in 2005 on the state of the Louisiana sugar industry was sidetracked when Hurricane Katrina shifted the nation`s headlines to more pressing matters. While the sugar series was never published, the photographs and back stories remain as a testament to the men and women who toil to bring sugar to our tables.
