OAKLAND — A whopping 22 percent increase in nearly all types of crimes at BART preceded the mob of teenager marauders who robbed seven passengers and beat two more at the Coliseum station Saturday, BART’s chief of police said Thursday. Since the start of the year, every type of crime except auto thefts and bike thefts have increased compared to the same time last year, said Acting BART police Chief Jeff Jennings. The spike follows three years of decreases in crime, with a 3 percent decrease in overall crime in 2016, and a 5 percent drop in 2015.
