Here I was midday Thursday, sitting in the house that Stan built. Two days after the death of Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, the Minnesota Orchestra´s music director from 1960 to ´79, I was experiencing a concert by that orchestra in a building for which the group´s artistic leader avidly advocated for years before it opened in 1974. Without Skrowaczewski as champion, we might not have such an acoustically ideal venue for classical music, or one of Minneapolis´ signature design features, those enormous white cubes that look as if they were flung into the back wall by some gargantuan catapult.
