Reddit moderator protests are fizzling out with nothing to show for it

Reddit moderators protesting changes to the Reddit API that would effectively kill third-party apps have all but lost the battle amid user frustration, lack of commitment, and threats from the site leadership.This week started off with the moderators of nearly 9,000 Reddit communities taking their subreddits offline to protest the exorbitant API fees Reddit intends to levy on third-party app developers, and it`s ending with the majority of those subreddits back online (or on their way) after the brief protest accomplished exactly nothing. The protest was inistially intended to last for 48 hours, which any union would tell you is the dumbest thing. Two days of lost revenue hurts a bit, but any business that wouldn`t survive that was already teetering on the edge. Unsurprisingly, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman simply opted to wait it out, which ended up pissing off some of the volunteer moderators more and demanding their fellow mods join them in an indefinite blockade.Read More »...
