Surplus water from PAP reservoirs in state flows into flooded Kerala

Coimbatore: At a time when the shutters of almost all the dams in Kerala are opened leading to severe flooding in the state, more than 17,800 cusecs of surplus water is being discharged from the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP), adding to its woes. An official from the Tamil Nadu public works department said except Thirumurhthy dam, almost all the reservoirs in the region are in spate. `We have no other option but to release the water to Kerala as we do not have any more place to store the water within the limits of the state,` he added. `Both Tamil Nadu and Kerala have received equivalent amount of rainfall this year.
