While at first it appeared that Reddit was winning the API fight against its moderators by forcing them to reopen or be fired, a new front has opened: burning down Reddit being being weird.The saga of the Reddit moderator protests against API changes has taken a most unexpected turn. After Reddit announced exorbitant API fees in an unsubtle effort to kill off third-party apps that are beloved by heavy users and relied upon by many moderators, thousands of mods banded together and took some of the largest traffic-driving communities on Reddit offline (and briefly tanked the whole site). But it was all for naught, as Reddit refused to back down, subreddits slowly started opening, and Reddit started threatening the volunteer moderators to reopen or be replaced.
