Pretoria - The Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, has turned down an application by Lawyers for Human Rights to have waste pickers declared an essential service during the 21-day national lockdown. Government opposed the urgent application and said while it has sympathy for the plight of waste pickers, they cannot be allowed to roam the streets and endanger the lives of others.
