The 2019-20 season proved to be one that Journal-area girls basketball fans will not soon forget. The Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year award went to Maine West´s Angela Dugalic. Fremd (30-7) stunned defending Class 4A state champion Maine West in the super-sectionals to advance to the final four at state. Fremd won its final two games to claim the first state championship in program history. Over a dozen area girls basketball players were named to the IBCA All-State team and numerous records fell across the area this year.
