Big West: Long Beach State defense helps make tournament push

Long Beach State’s men’s basketball team entered play this past week in last place in the Big West Conference. That’s not a good place to be, especially when considering the team that finishes last does not participate in the conference tournament. The Beach went to Hawaii on Wednesday and defeated the Rainbow Warriors 50-49 before a big crowd of 5,588 at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu. Long Beach State came back home and defeated UC Riverside 65-63 on Saturday in overtime at Walter Pyramid. Gritty defense was largely responsible for the victories.
