President rule imposed in Maharashtra after NCP seeks and is refused 48 hours more

While it was the third time President´s rule was imposed in the state, it was the first time it was done because of the inability of political parties to form a government after an election. The newly elected legislative assembly will be kept in suspended animation for now. The assembly may be revived and President´s rule lifted as and when some party works out a combination that is able to offer a stable government.
