Three students at St. Michael´s private school plead guilty to sex assault for locker-room attack

Three St. Michael’s College School students have pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a fellow student with a broomstick in a locker room.The three teens also pleaded guilty to assaulting another student with the broomstick. One of the three pleaded guilty to making child pornography on video.Last year Toronto police laid criminal charges against seven students in connection with two alleged gang sexual assaults and an alleged assault with a weapon at the all-boys’ private high school. All three incidents involved members of a football team at the school.Reached by the Star on Thursday, St. Michael’s said it had no comment on the guilty pleas. Last November, a police investigation was prompted by media reports about the video shared on social media that showed the sexual assault of a student with what appeared to be a broomstick in a school locker room.None of the students who were charged and the two victims can be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.Six students, all in their early teens, were charged with assault, gang sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon in connection with the Nov. 7 2018 incident.After a further police investigation, four of the same boys and another student were charged in another alleged gang sexual assault involving a different victim in October 2018. It was described by police as similar to the videotaped incident. Two boys were also charged with assault and assault with a weapon in a third incident in September 2018 involving the same victim.All seven students facing charges were released on bail the same day as they were arrested.Charges against of one of the students charged in the November 2018 incident were withdrawn in August because the Crown said there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.The cases against two other students, one charged in the November 2018 incident and one charged in the October 2018 incident, have also ended.
