An Iranian oil tanker seized by the United Kingdom is set to be released on Thursday despite last-minute efforts from the United States to halt the release, according to USA Today. The Supreme Court in the British territory of Gibraltar approved the release of the Grace 1 after British authorities said they no longer wanted to detain the vessel. Gibraltar`s Chief Minister said he had accepted a pledge from Iran that, were the tanker to be released, its cargo would not be taken to its suspected original destination of Syria, which would have violated sanctions put in place from the European Union.
