Polling time ends, vote count underway in first-ever elections in KP`s merged tribal districts

The polling time has ended for elections to 16 general seats of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in the first-ever provincial assembly polls held in KP`s merged tribal districts on Saturday. The voters present inside the polling stations were allowed to cast their votes even beyond the 5pm deadline. The counting of votes is underway and unofficial, unverified results have started emerging. As many as 2.8 million residents of the merged tribal districts were expected to exercise their franchise today. Polling opened at 8am amid tight security and continued until 5pm without any breaks.
