Bill to amend RTI law tabled in LS amid protests by opposition

The bill, which seeks to make information commissioners equivalent to election commissioners and gives the Centre the power to fix their tenure and emoluments, was opposed by oppn parties which said the proposal is a `threat` to the autonomy of the Central Information Commission. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the amendments were a threat to the independence of the CIC.
