OTTAWA—Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott have been tossed from the Liberal party.Wilson-Raybould broke the news herself just as Liberal MPs gathered for a special caucus meeting ostensibly to decide her fate and that of Jane Philpott.“I have just been informed by the Prime Minister of Canada that I am removed from the Liberal caucus and as the confirmed Vancouver Granville candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the 2019 federal election,� Wilson-Raybould said on Twitter.She said she would have more to say.Speaking to a special caucus meeting Tuesday, Justin Trudeau said the two could not continue as Liberals given they public expressions of lack of confidence in his leadership and the party.Philpott and Wilson-Raybould had each resigned their cabinet posts earlier this year over Justin Trudeau’s handling of the SNC-Lavalin file.But caucus unhappiness at the two women has been growing and boiled over into public complaints, spurred in large part by the revelation that Wilson-Raybould had secretly taped a telephone conversation with a senior public servant.MPs met earlier in separate regional caucus meetings and came together for a special session later on Tuesday to discuss the fate of the two MPs.The decision came despite a last-minute appeal from Wilson-Raybould to her Liberal colleagues to allow her to remain.
