A five-year-old child has been found safe after she was taken from her Markham school Tuesday afternoon.York Region police Const. Laura Nicole said a tip from a community member who had seen photos distributed by police lead to the apprehension of the suspect.Police were called to Armadale Public School, near McCowan Rd. and Elson St., at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday after the child’s father left with the girl in a minivan taxi north on Coppard Ave. The father was not supposed to have access to his daughter, police said. “At the point that the father had signed her out, there was no information that the school was aware of that he was not to have access to her,” Nicole said. “So, it appears as though he came and picked up the child, from the school’s standpoint, legitimately.”Police issued an Amber Alert at around 5 p.m.York Region District School Board spokesperson Licinio Miguelo said the school “followed appropriate protocols” and was unaware the father was not supposed to have access to the child. The girl was found safe at around 6 p.m. and the Amber Alert was cancelled. The suspect, Soloman Jaffri, 25, has been arrested. No changes have been laid as of yet. This was the second time an Amber Alert has been put into effect in Ontario this year. In February, Peel Regional Police issued an Amber Alert in the abduction of an 11-year-old girl by her father Roopesh Rajkumar, 41, of Brampton. The child was found dead and Rajkumar, who faced murder charges, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.Jack Hauen is a breaking news reporter, working out of the Star’s radio room in Toronto.
