Salt Lake leg of E-W Metro may start by April-end

KOLKATA: The much-awaited East-West Metro could begin its commercial run with the 6km stretch between Sector V and Salt Lake stadium opening as early as April-end if a `timely nod` from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) comes through, say senior officials overseeing the project. A clearance from CRS- an independent organisation under the ministry of civil aviation-is the final safety nod required to begin the first phase of the city´s most ambitious infrastructure project. The entire 16.6km line between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan, which includes an underwater stretch of the Hooghly, is likely to start operation by 2021.
