Despite a win over the Cubs on Saturday afternoon, the Cardinals` postseason hopes were dashed when the Dodgers defeated the Giants later in the day, eliminating the Cards from the National League Wild Card race. Miles Mikolas tossed eight sharp innings for St. Louis, limiting Chicago to an unearned run on an error, and Paul DeJong and Matt Carpenter backed him with RBI singles. The Cubs` Cole Hamels dealt seven innings, yielding two runs (one earned) and fanning eight, but Chicago will have to wait until Game 162 to vie for the NL Central title.
