GUWAHATI: Set to become the country`s longest rail-cum-road bridge, the Bogibeel bridge is in the eye of a storm even before its completion. The government is caught between a promise made to a community it has been trying to win over and the party`s demand to commemorate its hero. The bridge over the Brahmaputra, which has taken 16 years to build, will be 4.92 km long upon completion. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had laid the foundation of the bridge in 2002, having first proposed it in the 1997-98 budget.
