Scan of eye can now predict disease of heart

CHENNAI: A routine new test that looks for damages in the retina or vision loss may now be able to forecast diseases of the heart, kidney and vascular system much before symptoms show up. It may even be able to predict disorders such as diabetes, say doctors. Doctors at Chennai-based Madras Diabetes Research Foundation are working with the University of Dundee in Scotland with grants from UK`s National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) to conduct joint research studies to determine the common and specific problems related to diabetes, by accessing collated data including 30,000 patients from India. `Eyes are the biggest gateway to diagnosis.
