Tax measures to reduce single-use plastics could be included in the Budget following huge public support for action, a Treasury minister said. A consultation on the possibility of tax changes to stem the rising tide of plastic waste drew 162,000 responses, the highest in the Treasury´s history. Campaigners hailed the news, with Greenpeace suggesting a so-called `latte levy` on throwaway coffee was now `inevitable`.
