Michael Smith, who has led economic-development agencies in the Charlotte region for the last 12 years or so, is leaving the area for a job in the Research Triangle area of the state. Smith takes over in September as the CEO of the Sanford Area Growth Alliance, an agency that combines the economic development and chamber functions.
