A Fredericton man facing four charges of first-degree murder allegedly used a long gun and fired from an elevated position, police said Saturday, in a Friday attack that killed two police officers and two civilians. Police have identified the suspect as Matthew Vincent Raymond, 48. The victims have been identified as Fredericton officers Const. Sara Burns, 43, and Const. Robb Costello, 45, as well as Donald Robichaud, 42, and Bobbie Lee Wright, 32.Robichaud and Wright were in a new relationship, according to Robichaud’s cousin, Sean Callahan. They had just gotten together at the beginning of August, he said.At a news conference Saturday afternoon, police said they have not determined any link between the victims and the suspect, and they had not determined any motive. They confirmed that the suspect, who is in hospital, was shot by police. They asked witnesses to provide them with any photos or videos of the incident as they investigate.Robichaud was a loving parent who played bass and sang in a few local bands, said Callahan.“The guy was so likable, like, I don’t think he had anybody that hated him, and Donnie, if he even hated you, he’d still give you the shirt off his back — he would help you out,” Callahan said.Friends and family took to the Facebook status announcing Wright and Robichaud’s relationship to mourn on Saturday.“Thank you for being a great aunt for my kids,” one user wrote. “Please watch over my babies from up there.”“So sad. She and Donnie are going to be missed by many,” another said.Officials clarified Saturday that only one person was in hospital after the Friday shooting — Raymond, who is being treated for serious injuries.
