Kolkata Municipal Corporation slaps dengue notice on Joka ESI hospital

KOLKATA: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has slapped a notice on Joka ESI Hospital after several mosquito-breeding pockets were found on its campus during a recent anti-dengue drive. The hospital became the first organization to face action following the amendment of the KMC Act which empowered the civic body to impose a penalty of Rs 1 lakh - a hefty rise from Rs 5,000 - on an individual or an organization found violating dengue rules. Interestingly, KMC had earlier found several state-run hospitals and government offices flouting the norms but chose a central government hospital to wield its power.
