Motormen refuse overtime duty, cripple CR commute

MUMBAI: Rail commute was affected on Friday as motormen refused to undertake overtime duty and make up for shortage of staff. Though the protest was called off at 5pm, evening peakhour services were hit and the problem continued till late in night as more than 100 services were cancelled on all the three lines of Central Railway-Main, Harbour and Trans-Harbour. Due to bunching, a stampede-like situation prevailed at Dadar, Kurla, Thane and Ghatkopar stations in the evening. As commuters resorted to buses and taxis, huge snarls were reported on roads after evening.
