Fiers-Stanton feud heats up with HBP, HR

Tempers flared between the Yankees` Giancarlo Stanton and Tigers starter Mike Fiers in the third inning at Comerica Park on Monday night, when Stanton was hit by a pitch on the left elbow guard to load the bases with two outs. The plunking caused Stanton and Fiers to exchange words, with Tigers catcher James McCann holding Stanton back from approaching the mound. Stanton got a measure of payback in the top of the sixth, crushing a solo homer, his 13th of the year, to left field off Fiers before tersely tossing aside the bat as he stared at the path of the ball. The homer cut New York`s deficit to 3-2.
