Gleyber Torres became the youngest Yankee since Mickey Mantle in 1953 to reach 10 home runs as New York took Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader vs. Detroit. Greg Bird and Austin Romine homered in the Yankees` six-run fourth inning, and starter Luis Severino struck out 10 over eight strong innings. The Tigers made a late push, scoring two in the ninth on Niko Goodrum and Jose Iglesias doubles before Aroldis Chapman slammed the door.
