Seoul Metro to become quake-resistant

By Lee Kyung-min Seoul Metro will spend 93.8 billion won (87.3 million) to strengthen structures on its subway lines 1 to 4 to withstand earthquakes up to 6.3 magnitude, the city government said Monday. This is part of the city-led project to spend 281.9 billion won over the next three years on increasing the quake-resistance rate of public buildings to 80.2 percent from the current 62.5 percent. The move comes amid increased public awareness and fear following earthquakes that hit the southeastern cities of Pohang and Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province over the past two years.
