Alberto Named As First Tropical Storm of 2018 Season, Will Reach Florida Next Week

The National Hurricane announced on Friday that Alberto was the first rare preseason subtropical storm to form in the Gulf of Mexico, according to The Miami Herald. The forecasters released an advisory which said the storm was located nearly 55 miles south of Cozumel, Mexico, but was moving to the northeast at around 6 mph with sustained winds of 40 mph. The storm is predicted to pass close by the Yucatan coast on Friday night and proceed to the north over the weekend before veering northwest by Monday as it approaches the United States.
