“It preserved a record of a time and of the peoples in that time, principally in northern New Mexico,� said Carl Jones, president of the Couse Foundation, an organization named after the art society’s first president that operates the Couse-Sharp Historic Site in downtown Taos. The society “helped preserve customs, traditions, on canvas, that would’ve been lost a long time ago,� Jones said. The existing site includes studios of both Couse and Sharp.
