Tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico likely by weekend: National Hurricane Center

The National Hurricane Center reported Wednesday evening (May 23) that there is a 70 percent chance a low centered over the southeastern Yucatan Peninsula will form into a tropical depression. The low pressure system is better defined since Tuesday, the Hurricane Center said, and it continued to produce a large area of cloudiness and showers extending from the northwestern Caribbean Sea across Cuba into the Florida Straits.
