The 16 horses killed in a weekend fire have been identified by a manager at Sunnybrook Stables in a Facebook post, calling them “wonderful teachers and friends.”“It is with incredible sadness that we mourn the loss of Mr. T, Beau, Sutherland, Sandy, Sampson, Axel, Sugar, Blossom, Poomba, Hercules, Apollo, Phoenix, Marty, Misty, Tess and Gifford,” posted Sue Iwan, a certified coach at Sunnybrook Stables and the Riding Academy at the Horse Palace. They are forever in our hearts.” The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the devastating fire at the barn in Sunnybrook park.Toronto Fire said they heard “rumours” that fireworks were used in the park Sunday night and will look into it as part of the investigation. But they said they don’t have any facts that point to fireworks as the cause of the blaze.Thirteen horses were saved and transported to the Toronto police mounted unit’s stables at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds.
