Things were tense in Rocco Zito’s household in the week before the alleged mobster was shot dead, court heard Monday.Zito, 87, was no longer on speaking terms with his son-in-law, Domenic Scopelliti, 54, who lived in a basement apartment of Zito’s brick bungalow on Playfair Ave. near Caledonia Rd. and Lawrence Ave. W., according to Zito’s granddaughter Maria Scopelliti.“They weren’t speaking,” Maria Scopelliti, 24, said of the relationship between her grandfather, Zito, and father, Domenic Scopelliti.Zito was shot dead shortly after 5 p.m. on January 29, 2016 in the front hallway of his brick bungalow home.Read more: Slain reputed mobster Rocco Zito had guns, cash hidden all over house, court hearsLongtime mobster Rocco Zito shot dead in his homeReputed mobster Rocco Zito was killed in domestic dispute, not mob hit, court toldDomenic Scopelliti has been charged with murder.Maria Scopelliti, testified in the University Ave. courthouse on Monday that there had been some other tense episodes between her father and grandfather in the home shared by nine family members.At one point, Zito was knocked to the floor in a fight with her father in the kitchen, she said.She said family members were not allowed to return to the home until 1 ½ weeks after the fatal shooting. When they moved back, family members found a gun and a bag full of money, she testified.“They were shocked,” she said. “They found a gun in the dining room after the police investigation had taken place.”A wad of cash was found in a children’s lunch bag in the master bedroom, she said.“What was in the lunch bag?” Crown attorney Anna Stanford asked.“Money,” Maria Scopelliti said.“How much?” Stanford asked.“Over $200,000,” Scopelliti said.“I think it was probably my old lunch bag,” she said.She said the money was given to a male relative who said he would put it in a safe.Court ...
