Lock her up!Thatâs Doug Fordâs Trump-ian threat about Kathleen Wynne after he accused the Liberal premier of campaigning on the taxpayerâs dime.The rookie Progressive Conservative leader on Tuesday said if he is elected June 7 he will commission an âoutside audit of Kathleen Wynneâs reckless spending on his first day of office.ââIf Kathleen Wynne tried to pull these kinds of shady tricks in private life, then there would be a few more Liberals joining David Livingston in jail,â Ford said in Brockville.Livingston, the last chief of staff to former premier Dalton McGuinty, is on bail after being sentenced last week to four months in jail for the wiping of hard drives following the controversy over the cancellation of two gas-fired power plants.Neither McGuinty nor Wynne was implicated in the investigation or subsequent trial. Ford said Livingstonâs conviction symbolizes the need for âresponsibility, accountability, and trust in governmentâ after almost 15 years of Liberal rule.âOntario deserves answers about how big Kathleen Wynneâs mess really is,â he said.Even though Ford cited auditor general Bonnie Lysyk, who has been critical of the Liberalsâ accounting and spending practices, the PC leader promised outside auditors would âprobe the entirety of Kathleen Wynneâs fiscal mess and âfollow the moneyâ to see how your tax dollars are really being spent.âThe strategy echoes that of President Donald Trumpâs against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the 2016 American election where chants of âlock her upâ were often heard at Republican rallies.Ford, who bristled at being compared to Trump, is unhappy that Wynne and her ministers are promoting the March 28 budget at events across the province.In the Legislature, Tory MPP Jim Wilson said âthey are clearly campaigning on the taxpayer dime each and every day.âWynne countere ...
