Ford promises `outside audit´ of Wynne´s Liberals if he wins June election

Lock her up!That’s Doug Ford’s Trump-ian threat about Kathleen Wynne after he accused the Liberal premier of campaigning on the taxpayer’s dime.The rookie Progressive Conservative leader on Tuesday said if he is elected June 7 he will commission an “outside audit of Kathleen Wynne’s reckless spending on his first day of office.�“If Kathleen Wynne tried to pull these kinds of shady tricks in private life, then there would be a few more Liberals joining David Livingston in jail,� Ford said in Brockville.Livingston, the last chief of staff to former premier Dalton McGuinty, is on bail after being sentenced last week to four months in jail for the wiping of hard drives following the controversy over the cancellation of two gas-fired power plants.Neither McGuinty nor Wynne was implicated in the investigation or subsequent trial. Ford said Livingston’s conviction symbolizes the need for “responsibility, accountability, and trust in government� after almost 15 years of Liberal rule.“Ontario deserves answers about how big Kathleen Wynne’s mess really is,� he said.Even though Ford cited auditor general Bonnie Lysyk, who has been critical of the Liberals’ accounting and spending practices, the PC leader promised outside auditors would “probe the entirety of Kathleen Wynne’s fiscal mess and ‘follow the money’ to see how your tax dollars are really being spent.�The strategy echoes that of President Donald Trump’s against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the 2016 American election where chants of “lock her up� were often heard at Republican rallies.Ford, who bristled at being compared to Trump, is unhappy that Wynne and her ministers are promoting the March 28 budget at events across the province.In the Legislature, Tory MPP Jim Wilson said “they are clearly campaigning on the taxpayer dime each and every day.�Wynne countere ...
