We’re glad you don’t have a rocket launcher, Toronto. We knew to expect some reaction last week to our list of the Top 100 Toronto songs of all time, but the response, both positive and negative, has been overwhelming. There is clearly no shortage of passionate music fans in this town. Thanks for reading and listening along, particularly those who acknowledged the effort of what was clearly going to be a controversial task, no matter who made the cut. It wasn’t just readers who weighed in, but musicians themselves. We heard from one band who were rightly miffed that they didn’t make the cut (an omission we’ve rectified below). We got a lovely letter from National Velvet’s Maria Morales, and plenty of online love and retweets from people like Maestro, PUP and Blue Rodeo, which we never expected. And Torontonians, we heard from you — from as far away as Britain and Australia, and across Canada, as well as many who still live here, who pride themselves on their knowledge of local music history. We had asked for feedback about what songs you felt were overlooked, so what follows is a list of the tracks we agree are most deserving — along with select reader commentary. We also know there’s still many tracks and great artists that somehow didn’t make the cut. For that, our sincerest Toronto apology.
