A lawyer who claims to represent three disenfranchised members of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party is seeking an injunction to extend the party’s ongoing leadership race by one week.A judge is due to hear the injunction application at a University Ave. courthouse on Friday morning.John Nunziata, a lawyer and former Liberal MP, made the announcement Thursday night. Nunziata claimed that “hundreds of thousands” of Ontario PC members have been unable to log on to the party’s electronic voting system or received membership information in the mail. He said he worried that, if the race wasn’t extended, “that one of the losing candidates can bring a court application to set aside the result, and that would not be good for the party.”To his understanding, all three individuals who signed affidavits were backing different candidates and none were directly connected to a campaign team. The request comes about a day after the Ontario PC party rejected written complaints from candidates Doug Ford and Caroline Mulroney. “Team Ford has and is continuing to receive thousands of calls and emails from disenfranchised voters about this issue,” the Ford camp said Wednesday. “Voters are outraged, disillusioned, and confused.” They called for a one-week extension.
