Baby found abandoned outside building in Keele St. and Lawrence Ave. W. area

A newborn has been rushed to the hospital after being found outside a building in the west end of Toronto.Paramedics said they responded to the scene in the Keele St. and Lawrence Ave. W. area. around 11 a.m. Tuesday and rushed the child in serious condition to a local hospital. The child’s condition has worsened since then, and is in critical condition, police said.It’s not known how long the child was exposed to the elements, police said. Initial reports were that two individuals found the baby on the ground at the rear of a plaza, “wrapped in a blanket” and they called police when they realized the baby was cold, Const. Jenniferjit Sidhu said. The baby was conscious and breathing when police arrived. The exact age of the infant is unknown.“The baby is possibly days old, possibly just a couple of weeks old,” said police media spokesperson Katrina Arrogante. “Any baby in that condition could be considered in a serious state, especially being found outdoors.” Police are hoping to find witnesses or security footage of the area in order to investigate.
