Farm bodies hold protest over debt waiver

BATHINDA: With the Punjab government failing to implement the farm debt waiver scheme despite issuing the notification, seven farmer outfits on Wednesday held protests outside the offices of deputy commissioners in various districts across the state. The state government had issued a notification on October 18 for providing benefit of loan waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh to 10.25 lakh small and marginal farmers of the state but the process has not been started yet. The state government has to provide benefit of loan waiver of Rs 9,500 crore in instalments.
