SC eases pet coke, furnace oil ban

The Supreme Court on Wednesday modified its order and eased the ban on use of pet coke for cement manufacturing, lime industries, and on furnace oil for power generation. A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta directed the Environment Ministry to modify its notification pertaining to the use of pet coke and furnace oil, permitting it to lay down regulations for its use. The top court also directed the Centre to consult all stakeholders on the issue of importing pet coke.
