Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle are engaged, Britain’s Clarence House announced Monday.The couple stepped out for their first photo-op following the engagement, holding hands and beaming. The red-haired royal said he knew she was the one “the very first time we met.”The statement from the palace read: “His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle.“The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.”The prince and his soon-to-be bride did not linger long for photos, although Markle, who said she was “so happy,” obligingly flashed the ring when prompted by press. Harry, wearing a blue suit and tie, said he was “thrilled.” When they were asked if the proposal was romantic, the Prince of Wales quipped, “of course it was!”In their first sit-down interview following the announcement, the couple said Harry had proposed during an intimate dinner at Nottingham Cottage earlier this month. The two met through a blind date arranged by a female friend in July of 2016. Although both are public figures, neither of them knew much about each other, and Harry said he was “beautifully surprised.”Before the date, Markle’s only concern was, “is he nice?” Two dates in, the two were already making plans for a romantic getaway to Botswana, where they camped out under the stars. What got the second date, Markle said, was their shared desire to change the world.Royal officials say Prince Harry designed the engagement ring himself.
