Dutch gTLDs Refuse To Provide Public WhoIs Records Escalating Tensions With ICANN

Two Dutch geo-gTLDs have refused to give up public access Whois records in what is being seen as an indication of changes in the industry under new privacy laws in Europe, Domain Incite reported Monday. The .amsterdam and .frl gTLDs reportedly applied privacy to registrant data by default, the report said. They stated they will only provide Whois access to those who have been cleared to see the information such as law enforcement officials. ICANN responded by giving both registries a breach notice, said the report.
