Dengue cases down but may spiral with return of rain, warn doctors

Thane: Dengue fever and cases of viral fever could spiral to near-epidemic proportions after the hot spell subsides and rains revisit the city anytime soon, cautioned medical experts. Doctors treating the huge flow of patients in the outpatient department (OPD) of the civil hospital said, though the reported cases of dengue fever are less as compared to the previous year, the rains could trigger large-scale infections. Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease, which causes weakness and leads to a drastic drop in the blood count. There is no specific vaccine or treatment to tackle dengue fever.
