Chit fund companies thrive despite crackdowns

BHUBANESWAR: Unfazed by the ongoing CBI probe into the chit fund scam, many ponzi firms continue to operate in the state. This is evident from the recent arrests of chit fund functionaries from across Odisha. Sources said the economic offences wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch and different district police forces had arrested more than 750 persons between 2014 and 2017. Among these were 15 staff members of 12 firms, arrested between 2015 and 2017. The probe agencies registered over 630 cheating cases against more than 200 chit fund companies.
